Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty Exhibition Extended Through August 7 at Metropolitan Museum

Special Ticketed Monday Viewing Hours to Begin on June 6

(New York, May 31, 2011) – The Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition organized by The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art has been extended by one week. The new closing date is August 7. The exhibition, which opened to the public on May 4, has already drawn more than 180,000 visitors.

Because of the high demand, the Museum will also introduce Met Mondays with McQueen—a program offering new, additional hours that the exhibition galleries will be open—beginning on June 6. Visitors may purchase tickets for special viewings on upcoming Mondays when the Museum is closed to the public. Monday access will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The special viewing rate will be $50 per person with entries on the half hour, and will include a free Audio Guide to the exhibition. Tickets will be available in early June on-site at the Met as well as on the Museum’s website at www.metmuseum.org/alexandermcqueen. (Met Mondays with McQueen will not be offered on Monday, July 4, because it is a Met Holiday Monday, one of the annual series of Monday holidays when the Museum’s galleries are open to the public.)

On Tuesdays through Sundays, through the run of the exhibition, Museum Members are provided express entry to the exhibition, allowing them to skip the lines to enter the exhibition. Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty has been drawing crowds since opening day, May 4, which had the highest attendance of any public opening day for a Costume Institute exhibition; that attendance was second at the Met only to that of Vincent van Gogh: The Drawings in 2005.

The exhibition is made possible by Alexander McQueen™.

Additional support is provided in partnership with American Express and Condé Nast.

My Thoughts on Memorial Day: Editor Opinion

Monday, May 30th is Memorial Day, a day when the citizens of this country take time to remember the fallen soldiers and the men and women how paid the “final Price” for our liberties and freedoms, we also take time to pay tribute the ones who survived and came home to make their way in the world.

I am a patriotic American, I believe in the founding fathers vision of a free society where we would all live in harmony and work together towards a perfect union of brotherhood. I believe that this is possible, but only through the work of everyone towards a common goal and a common good. I state this because I want to make it clear that I feel that this Memorial Day we need to expand our feelings about who deserves the praise and how we should show it.

In this country, there has been a common belief that “We’re Number One” or “Our Way is The Only Way”, but, don’t you think that everyone everywhere would feel this way about their country as well? I would propose that everyone would feel that their way of life, their social and political structure, their religious beliefs are just as important, just as pure, just as worth dying for.

Rather than putting up a flag and firing up the BBQ and sucking back a beer “for old glory”, lets open our thoughts and hearts to all of those who gave up their lives for all of us. Let us think of the Soldiers, Police, Fire Fighters, Volunteers and Journalists... EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE how gave their lives in the pursuit of Freedom, it should not matter what country, which war or what time period. I would also like to add that we remember the Civilians, Aid Workers, Men, Women and Children who died.

When I discussed this, I was asked by an associate “So, should we honor the Terrorists from 9-11?”, I would say that we should not honor the act of terror or honor terrorists, but in their minds and hearts, they believed themselves to be “Freedom Fighters”, if you find that you cannot, for one day expand your remembrance to forgive those who would hate us for only a day, them lend your hearts to their Mothers, Fathers, Children, the ones left behind to bear the burden and shame of their fallen family member’s actions, and remember their victims, who did not have a chance to fight back.

In the recent months, people around the world are rising up against oppressive regimes and trying to make their lives better, some we agree with, others we may not atone. There have been Natural Disasters like we have not seen in ages. People everywhere on the brink of destruction, not trusting anyone from anywhere, but if you just take a moment to forget which side of the pond we are on, and just think of the people, in themselves genetically the same all over the world, all of the “Fallen Heroes” deserve a salute.

Our nation was built on the Christian principles of Freedom and Forgiveness, I see on Auto Bumpers the stickers “WWJD” or “He Lived so we would be forgiven” well, what would Jesus do? The Lord and Savior would be the first to reach his hand out and share his love, why can’t we all?

This Memorial Day, Remember why we are a Free People, and Who Gave us that Freedom, God Bless America and Everyone Else.

Review of In Search Of Beethoven & In Search Of Mozart

Article first published as DVD Review: In Search Of Beethoven and In Search Of Mozart on Blogcritics.

This Special Collector's Edition-Three Disk Box Set of the Microcinema Exclusive educational documentary series titled In Search Of Beethoven & In Search Of Mozart is as much brilliant as the composers whose lives are touched upon. Directed by Phil Grabsky, these two documentaries take you not only into the lives of both Beethoven and Mozart, but into their worlds, what inspired them, created them and gave them reason and cause to create the music that has spanned time and is still as unique and powerful as when it was created.

Filmed in locations in and around the European cities, homes and haunts of the composers, In Search Of Beethoven & In Search Of Mozart, the films take you into the very footsteps of the masters, it is obvious that there was extensive research into the lives of both Beethoven and Mozart. There are commentaries by noted Historians, Conductors and World Renown Performers, whom have made the works of Beethoven and Mozart the focus of their careers. The viewer gets a glimpse into the private journals of both Beethoven and Mozart, and find out the until now known reasons for why they lived as they did and why they were not only well known and famous in their lives, but also the tortured geniuses that would invoke, in their music, images of love, hope and the divine.

Beethoven and Mozart, both musical contemporaries, living at the same time in very similar places, went on to lead very different lives, you learn of Beethoven’s desire to live an aristocratic life, how Mozart, at the age of five, wrote his first piano piece, at an age when most children are unable to play piano! In Search Of Beethoven & In Search Of Mozart show you the Highs and the Lows of the composer’s great lives in the era of invention and revolution.

I sat down to watch In Search Of Beethoven & In Search Of Mozart with my wife, both of us enjoy classical music and documentaries, we found ourselves riveted to our seats. The series is not “dry” or monotone, but vibrant and intriguing, the commentators/narrators spoke with enthusiasm and the information about the composers lives showed them as the “stars” of their times and as people whom fell prey to the same issues that we have today dealing with social matters, politics, war and personal issues, it was very dramatic. Shortly after our kids came into the room and they were interested too, my daughter, who is eight years old, was completely still and afterwards watched the third disk, which had extras like deleted scenes, interviews and complete movements by the symphonies and concerto ensembles that performed pieces by the composers in the documentary. I feel my children learned about the lives of Beethoven and Mozart just as much as I did, and it was a great way to expose them to culture and music.

It is difficult to tell you more without exposing too many of the secrets of the documentaries In Search Of Beethoven & In Search Of Mozart, the series will be available for purchase on May 31st, 2011 at your local retailer, online or at the web site for the series http://www.microcinemadvd.com/, I would advise you to mark your calendar and get this series.

The Drink of My Choice

When we go out to eat fine cuisine or our relatives come to visit for an evening supper, my extended family members each have one glass of a good white wine. That is except for me; I am the odd person out. Instead, with my expensive meal, I savor a different drink of choice—Mountain Dew. Yes, in the midst of these connoisseurs, I’m a real mountain hillbilly. You see MD was originally created back in the 1940’s by two Tennessee beverage bottlers, Barney and Ally Hartman.

At the popular restaurant, BJ’s (in Huntington Beach, Denver Colorado, etc.), while I am salivating, waiting for their delicious blackened salmon, I invariably order the BJ’s specialty, Strawberry Lemonade MD. This concoction was introduced to me by a BJ’s waitress a couple of years ago. Now I guzzle it like water:-) I wish the Pepsi Cola Company or BJ’s bottled it.

My very favorite Mountain Dew, however, after the “real” stuff, good old regular MD) is Livewire. When my wife and I visited South Carolina last fall, I found my first bottle in over a year and slurped it greedily down. It has a great orange tangy zest and goes well with whatever good food we are eating. Right now I wouldn’t mind having Carolina Delight (lightly fried grit and crab cakes, topped with a creamy sauce), one of the specialties of Hymans Seafood of Charleston, along with a Live Wire.

Would you believe, we can’t get Live Wire in California? Who knows why? The Pepsi Cola Bottling Company doesn’t market this marvelous thirst quencher on the west coast. What a huge deprivation for us;-)! We’ve even tried having it shipped our way from out of state, but Pepsi Cola refuses. Plus, get this, the company quit creating MD Distortion last year, another great soda with a powerful end burst of lime. But who cares about us thirsty MD aficionados?

Have no fear though, I don’t suffer from lack of variety; there are other flavors to imbibe, swig, chug, gulp, swill, quaff, swallow, even slug, if I tire of regular MD—Pitch Black, Baja Blast, Code Red, Typhoon, Voltage, White Out…I don’t yet gargle with MD, but who knows;-)

Food Review -Hawaiian Kettle Style Chips

Article first published as Food Review: Hawaiian Kettle Style Chips on Blog critics.

Summer, a time for family outings, parties and having the friends and family over for many occasions, and all of them include snacks. I have had my share on company rich events and I like to have crunchy snacks around to keep the guests happy until the BBQ is done, and I have found a new treat I would like to share with you.

images

Hawaiian Kettle Style Chips by Pinnacle Foods have fabulous and uniquely satisfying taste that is sure to please the most ardent snack fan. The chips are not paper thin but thick and crisp, not oily but full of the natural rich potato flavor with just a hint of salt. I tried four of the varieties of chips they make and I would like to tell you about them.

The Original Flavor is naturally sweet and bold in its simplicity, great for eating plain or with your favorite dip, I like onion dip or plain sour cream, but I think any of your choices would be just as great.

The Sweet Maui Onion has a snappy taste, not too strong on the onion, but it has a “caramelized” onion flavor that brings out a natural tone and texture that does not need any dip or sauces to make it taste better.

The Luau BBQ flavored chips are a spicy treat that, unlike other BBQ flavored chips is refreshing and not too heavy on the tongue. It has a delightful zest, a peppery after taste that lingers just long enough for you to reach for another chip.

Finally, The Wasabi Flavored Chips, with a deep tongue curling heat, makes your taste buds “self-cleaning”, have a glass of water or your favorite beverage ready, you will need it. If you like spicy hot foods, this is it, I loved it!

Any of these varieties would be great to eat with your favorite BBQ meal, after game party platter or alone on an afternoon watching the tube, Hawaiian Kettle Style Chips by Pinnacle Foods, look for them next time you’re out shopping for your family.

Now, Come to South Florida

Many people think of Florida as hot, balmy sunny and fun. Until they get here in the "winter months" only to find the only thing missing is snow. Florida gets snow in the northern part of the state but here in the south, we can see temps drop into the 30's. The ocean is too cold for swimming and the winds are unbearable for a lunch at the boardwalk. Many seasonal tourists do not get to enjoy all the fun the blue beaches offer.

NOW is the time. Temps are in the high 80s winds are low and the fish are jumpin. Bikini season unofficially begins around early May while us locals get a jump on our tan. Here is a list of things to do in the Fort Lauderdale area this summer. But be warned, we may wear skimpy bathing suits but sunscreen is applied ALL over the body; the sun is so strong you will get your tan but avoid painful ugly burns.

May Mid May thru May 31

  • McDonald's Air and Sea Show - mid-May, visitors get to see US Marines perform all manner of aerial and water-based displays at this popular annual event

June

  • Fort Lauderdale Gun and Knife Show - mid-June, held at the War Memorial Auditorium this annual event attracts lovers of civilian weapons and light military hardware
  • Stonewall Street Festival and Parade - mid-June, Gay Pride event, attracting more than 10,000 gay and lesbian visitors

July
  • Bank of America Starlight Musicals - Friday nights at Fort Lauderdale's Holiday Park witness the Bank of America staging open-air concerts featuring a variety of musical genres. Visitors are expected to bring their own chairs, garden mats, food and drink.
  • July Fourth is the most crowded and fun times on the beaches. Almost all cities have fireworks. the very best place to see them is on the water. Book early, get on a boat to see the spectacular fireworks of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and Popano Beach.

August

  • Hollywood Beach Latin Festival - just outside of Fort Lauderdale in neighboring Hollywood you'll find the August Hollywood Beach Latin Festival. Visitors can view performances by local and international artists while enjoying great Latin food and arts and crafts displays. The night time becomes the biggest dance party on the beach.

29th Annual Paso Robles Wine Festival

A Weekend of Wine and Fun for Everyone

IMG_9934This year’s 29th Annual Paso Robles Wine Festival was a fabulous event and a fantastic weekend of exploring the fine wines produced by the local vintners and wineries of the Central Coast of California. Paso Robles and the surrounding counties, which is well known for it’s plethora of beautifully scenic locations and for it’s wonderful agriculture is considered the place to grow the best grapes possible. Many of the local wineries have produced some of the best known award winning wines recognized around the world, and this year’s selections is no exception.

IMG_8978I personally tasted over 200 different varieties, Red and White, from outstanding wineries, such as Ortman Family Wines, Still Waters, Vina Robles, Arroyo Robles, Halter Ranch, Justin Wines and so many more. Paso Robles is home to over 275 Wineries, Tasting Rooms and Growers Ranches that make the area the ideal for both the wine industry and the community.

IMG_9859In addition to a vast choice of wines to sample, there were many booths that were hosted by the fine food/epicurean dealers and restaurateurs of Paso Robles - Cheese Makers, Farm Service Providers and Growers. This is an event that not only supports the wine industry, but all of the community businesses and services. Paso Robles is the kind of town that has managed to grow with the times but still retain the charm and elegance of “The Old Days”, a simpler time when you knew your neighbors by their first name and you could sit on the porch and watch the world go by with a smile, in short, an American Town, a place to call home.

IMG_9074While at the festival, I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing the hosts of the very popular radio show about wine called “The Cork Dorks”, Adam Montiel and Jeremy West host this fun and freaky show that talk about the wines of the central coast with a humorous note, not to take themselves or the appreciation too seriously has made them the “go to” guys of wine.

IMG_9110“The Cork Dorks” are on Krush 92.5 FM which streams live on the internet. Jeremy an Adam are very well versed on the community and the wineries and had this to say about their radio station, their show and the community: “KRUSH is an interesting type of station as that it blends the Singer / Songwriter style of music with the California Wine Lifestyle, it’s really about getting down to who the winemakers is and what they are about, we get to know them and show them as a person, not just what they sell”, said Adam Montiel. Jeremy West pointed out “There is a multitude of winemakers who just love what they do and want to bring that same love of wine to the community with an industry that is designed to support the community”. Adam then added “We mix music, community and a love of life”. The Cork Dorks takes their irreverent spin on living life to the air and makes the daily drive time fun.

Mark Sullivan photoThe day was well rounded by a special cooking demonstration with Chef Mark Sullivan of Spruce, a very popular restaurant in San Francisco. This was Chef Sullivan’s 2nd year doing demonstrations and the final product was delicious. Chef Sullivan stated he loves the Town of Paso Robles, its people and its natural charm and wanted to prepare a special dish for this year’s fair patrons, a dish that reflected the natural and wholesome charm of the community. The dish prepared was a Farroto (a grain much like Risotto, but creamy in texture) finished with Morel Mushrooms, braised spring vegetables and finished in a sherry wine stock. The chef then added “I would pair this with a light to medium bodied Red Wine like a Pinot or Merlot, something light but a fair bit of acidity to cut the rich creamy flavor, or a rich white, like a Chardonnay”.

spruce-raddatz-2008-300x199We then went on to talk about his restaurant, Spruce, located at 3640 Sacramento Street in San Francisco, is a modern fine dining restaurant that has a family friendly, health conscious menu, but also has a unique atmosphere with an elegant yet warm and inviting décor, it is the toast of the town.

IMG_9892I will admit, it is sad that the 29th Annual Paso Robles Wine Festival was only one weekend long and it has passed, but I look forward to next year’s event with excited anticipation and I await the next year’s selection of fine wine temptations. To you, Paso Robles, I raise my glass and hope to see it filled once more.

Not Your Ordinary Fairy Tale - Once Upon A Time comes to ABC

A young woman stands in a place where worlds collide and “all bets are off”, nothing makes sense and everything seems upside-down, and that’s just the beginning of this story. This is the tale of two worlds, one is the everyday place, where you go to work, pay your bills and make every attempt to stay within the lines, the other, where fantasy, magic and wishful thinking are the rules of the game. But what happens when the two worlds are brought together and then seriously come unglued.

Once Upon A Time–ABC Television

Once Upon A Time weaves a visual tapestry of lives caught between two worlds and neither seems complete, but both are very surreal. Anna Swan (Jennifer Morrison) is a young bail bonds collector who's had a tough life since she was abandoned as a child.  Her life may have been difficult, but when the son she gave up re-unites with her, life changes for the bizarre.  Her 10 year old son, Henry (Jared Gilmore) is in desperate need of his mother’s help.  This, in itself may not seem so bad, but her son Henry reveals to his mother that he believes that Anna actually comes from an alternate fairy tale world... and is the missing daughter Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) and Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin)!

In Once Upon A Time, according to Henry’s book of fairytales, they sent Anna away to protect her from the Evil Queen's (Lana Parilla) curse, which trapped the fairytale world forever, frozen in time.  Of course Anna doesn't believe a word, but when she brings Henry back to Storybrooke, she finds herself drawn to this unusual boy and his strange New England town.

Concerned for the son she is just now getting to know, she decides to stay for a while, but she soon suspects that Storybrooke is more than it seems.  Storybrooke is a strange place, with even stranger visitors, who seem familiar yet so far from the mind. And to make things more mysterious, the residents don't remember who they once were--including the Evil Queen who is now Henry's foster mother!

The epic battle for the future of all worlds is beginning, but for good to win, Anna will have to accept her destiny and fight for her life.

Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (Lost, Tron: Legacy) have created a program that invites you to a vision of a world where fairytales and the “modern day” ram into each other. A place where lives hang in a balance and a “happily ever after” may not be as close as one would hope. Brace yourself for a modern fable filled with excitement and wonder, filled with the magic of our most beloved fairytales, Once Upon A Time.

ABC Brings the Charlie’s Angels back to TV, and The Angels Bring It On!

Grab your Wings and Take an action packed “fast flight” into action.

When I was a young, I tuned into see Charlie’s Angels and watched three beautiful women fight crime and looking fantastic doing it. I never missed a show and like all young men, I could not decide which Angel I wanted to marry, they were as intelligent as they were beautiful, and the magic of Hollywood made them a household name. It has been many years since there has been a program that showed the value of teamwork, loyalty and the power of charm, until now.

ABC is bringing back the Angels, CHARLIE'S ANGELS is coming back to television on ABC, Leonard Goldberg , from the original television shows and Drew Barrymore, who starred in the hit movie adaptation, have combined talents to create a fantastic version of Charlie’s Angels that incorporates the drama of the original story styling’s with a great modern spin. The story is based around three women on a road to redemption, in the original they were all professionals that went to work for Charlie, in this story timeline, they are women with a past, ex-cons and “near-do-wells” who until Charlie pulled them out of the dark, had no future, and now may be somebody’s only hope for salvation and justice. Their second chance at an honest life may be the only chance the people they help have.

Charlie’s Angels–ABC Television

The Cast is made up of Annie Ilonzeh as Kate Prince, a Miami cop who fell from grace, losing both her career and her fiancé, Minka Kelly as Eve, a street racer with a mysterious past and Rachel Taylor as Abby Sampson, a Park Avenue Princess who became a world-class thief. Ramon Rodriguez stars as Bosley, their technical expert and Robert Wagner as the Voice of Charlie. Sony Pictures Television is the Production Company with executive Producers Drew Barrymore, Miles Millar, Alfred Gough, Nancy Juvonen, Leonard Goldberg and Directed by Marcos Siega.

This big, loud, fun take on the 1970's smash hit series introduces us to three new angels, all fearless operatives, head-turning beauties and close friends.

The story starts out with drama, one of the original three angels, Gloria, is killed during a mission, Charlie persuades them to partner with Gloria's childhood friend, Eve and action ensues. They start out not knowing if it will work out, but they become fast friends, and an even more powerful force for good.

To find out more about what will be this coming season’s hottest new show on ABC, follow these links http://abc.go.com/shows/charlies-angels, http://www.Facebook.com/CharliesAngelsABC and http://www.twitter.com/AngelsABC. Charlie’s Angels is sure to entertain you, this isn’t the old show, but a bigger, better more dramatic interpretation with much more to offer than you would expect from a “new version” of an old show, in fact, this is a whole new show, a whole new life, for Charlie’s Angels.

An Interview with Graham Elliot of Master Chef

At age 27, Graham Elliot became the youngest four-star chef in America. In 2008, Elliot opened his first venue, simply named “Graham Elliot”, a restaurant that would be the springboard into his restaurateur career. Graham Elliot has been mentioned in numerous newspapers and magazines including Best New Chef in 2004 from Food & Wine Magazine and listed in the MICHELIN Guide.

Graham Elliot

Since Graham Elliot opened his first “Bistronomic” concept restaurant in Chicago, he has received three James Beard Nominations. Graham Elliot continues to break the mold and exudes a passion in everything he does.

I was able to get an interview with Graham Elliot while he was between appointments to discuss the upcoming second season of Master Chef where, he, Gordon Ramsay and Joe Bastianich take everyday people with a passion for cooking, a desire for excellence, and a dream for fame into the fast paced world of being chosen to be the next Master Chef.

Joseph: Hello Mr. Elliot

Graham Elliot: Hi, Joe.

Joseph: Do you prefer Mr. Elliott or Graham?

Graham Elliot: Oh, Graham is fine.

Joseph: First I want to start off by saying thank you for speaking with me today. It’s both an honor and a pleasure; I am a big fan of the first season of Master Chef, so it’s a special treat for me as well as an opportunity to do an interview.

Graham Elliot: Awesome, I’m looking forward to talking about our show.

Joseph: well, I would like to start with a more opinion-based question, being as the concept of the cooking show has gone from simple “how-to” on television to becoming a competitive “sport” where people have developed life-long dreams around climbing the kitchen ladder to greatness. As a professional chef, how does it make you feel about people looking to really become great in the culinary arts?

Graham Elliot: I had this discussion with someone in the kitchen about it just the other day, the whole genre of restaurants and cooking is changing so quickly, the idea of going to culinary school and working your way in the kitchen so you can eventually own your own restaurant – that does not seem to be the norm or the goal really any more. Now it’s “ I want to be a famous chef” or “ I want to have my own show” or a catering company, or wanting to be able to dabble in food but maybe not have all the responsibility of everything that goes with that – being a “chef”. So that makes us question what we do with the fact that so many people see cooking in different ways – even on Master Chef, some come because of beautiful organic artful experience, some – because of political reasons, environmental reasons – using organics and natural farm’s table, local, sustainable; then there’s people who come for the full cock-eye sport - “I just want to beat people, show them that I can cook and be better than everyone else”. There are all these different personalities that come to play now.

Joseph: I’ve followed the show Hell’s Kitchen where Gordon Ramsay has taken professional chefs into a competitive environment, whereas in Master Chef, you take “everyday” people into a similar environment. How is it to work with people like this, finding that diamond in the rough and trying to bring out that culinary magic in that person?

Graham Elliot: It’s so fun, because during season two (I think because so many got to see Season One and what we are about) it was almost scary how good a lot of these people were – without formal training, without having worked in the restaurants for years, without the background and upbringing… It’s really awe-inspiring that they are so good and that they have such great understanding of all the fundamentals of cooking and use of the ingredients; and these are people of all different ages. It’s really cool to see that so many people are turned on to cooking in general.

Joseph: Graham, is there anybody on this show this season that has great potential to be Master Chef?

Graham Elliot: Absolutely, there are numerous ones. When you finally get down to the last few contestants, there’s actual multiple choices. Gordon, Joe and I look at each other –“who do we pick for this one?” - It’s really hard, it’s not a clear, to find that one incredible winner, but more like you are splitting hairs. Because they are finding their own voice, doing great stuff and there are some that are competitive that are good only at beating each other, which is not very helpful. We find there are a special element in our contestants who know the intrinsic knowledge of the ingredients and how they work together, and they are great teachers, and super passionate; you start seeing the person behind the cooking. So, I personally think you will see many of them that could become a Master Chef, but we can only choose one.

Joseph: Working with Mr. Ramsay and Mr. Bastianich., there is such an enormous difference between the personalities, It’s almost like a “clash of the titans”, how is it working with them?

Graham Elliot: Being so young, I have a picture of Gordon and I together, when I was twenty years old, I was working at a restaurant and we were cooking dinner together, but I was just “there”, - and now, years later I am presiding with him on the show, as an equal – I have to pinch myself, I would never take it for granted. Same with Joe: 20 + restaurants coast to coast. I feel that each one of us brings something special to the table – it’s amazing to be part of it. In Season One – we knew each other professionally, but had not “worked “ together , but being there on the set, six days a week, twelve hours a day – makes us more at ease with each other. Gordon seems to really connect with the people on an emotional level, bring out the passion, where Joe has a more “this is good, that’s bad,” - “stop wasting our time” attitude, we balance each other out and create a very special program.

Joseph: If you put yourself in the lineup, between yourself, Gordon and Joseph, Graham, do you see yourself as Hard Line, Moderate, Relaxed?

Graham Elliot: I am the one that’s nice to a fault, I say” You should really try this”, or “You should not do that.” Joe says “, it’s @%&#(explanative), get off the stage”, and Gordon says ‘Come on guys, they tried to do this, it did not work, but they tried.” He’s the center guy – you can see him harping on Joe for being too aggressive and on me for not being aggressive enough. So he sets the tone for the show by being “the man.”

Joseph: From what I can see, your ability to look at the person and find that “special something” in them where others don’t is incredible, showing people that put their lives on the line for a dream, deserves compassion. Some say “it’s just cooking show”, while others want to be there, on the set, and try to win. This show has diverse audience, just like it has diverse contestants. How would you describe the show's present direction?

Graham Elliot: On Season One, we had a tremendous number of people trying to be on the show, and we got some caliber of the cooks where they were able to do some cool stuff – we saw them “Wow, they can really decorate the cake” or “They really know how to work in the kitchen”. Now, we have created an interest in the show's ability to have the talent of the contestants shine through, it is not about us, it’s about them.”

Joseph: We look forward to an incredible second season of Master Chef; will there be a Season Three, Four or more?

Graham Elliot: That Depends on the success of Season Two, keeping our fingers crossed… I know there’s talk about maybe bringing travel into it, different locations, changing challenges a bit to keep it fresh and exciting.

Joseph: What’s going on with Graham Elliott, anything new and exciting for you personally?

Graham Elliot: Recently, we celebrated the three-year anniversary of our restaurant. When we started, we wanted a restaurant where we wanted do what we want, wear jeans, nothing fancy, very “down to earth, regular guy”, but it grew into something better. We’ve gone away from the angry adolescent stage, we’re in our confident “twenties” stage, to continue following the same ethos, but elevate things to more fine level. We’re doing more tasting menus, more refined and intricate. At the same time, we came up with “Grahamwich” – a new style of sandwich restaurant, and we have homemade, specialty sodas on tap and keep it fun. We are trying to see things from both ends of the spectrum and find that perfect place in the middle

Joseph: Do you have any cookbooks or plan to have one come out soon?

Graham Elliot: Currently I am working on one tentatively called Appetite for Consumption – it’s a rock-inspired cookbook. We think there are so many similarities between food and music. I am the culinary director for Lollapalooza; they have a food town area now – and instead of getting a plain Hamburger or Hot Dog , we created specialty items like lobster corn dogs, truffle popcorn and more, pretty cool items.

Joseph: I know you are running out of time and have a busy schedule; do you have any websites where people can go to find out more about you and Master Chef?

Graham Elliot: I suggest the first stop on the internet should be http://www.fox.com/masterchef and then there’s my personal site http://www.grahamelliot.com with the restaurants I have and information about what I am doing.

Joseph: Once again, thank you for a great interview and I look forward to watching the Master Chef on Fox.

Graham Elliot: You are very welcome, and thank you for your support of the show.
