A week before the premiere of its first original movie, Steve Niles’ Remains, Chiller.Com wet viewers’ appetites for zombies with the debut of a special online-only prequel, Remains: Road to Reno. This eleven-minute webisode, produced exclusively for Chillertv.com. It premiered Friday, December 9 and gave viewers a glimpse at the origins of Remains’ post-apocalyptic zombie invasion.

At the outset of the film (premiering Friday, Dec 16 @ 10pm on Chiller), a radioactive blast transforms every tourist and local in Reno, Nevada into mindless, ravenous zombies. But before the action begins in Reno, somewhere just outside the city a lone mechanic (Morgan West) is learning first-hand what’s required to survive the undead.

With Remains: Road to Reno, Chiller’s official prequel to Steve Niles’s Remains, viewers can head back before the blast to watch as the virus descends upon an isolated gas station. Imagined by writer Steve Niles, this exclusive online event reveals the origins of Remains characters - both alive and undead - and pits zombie against zombie on the blood-soaked road to Reno. Remains: Road to Reno is written by John Doolan and directed by Colin Theys (who wrote and directed, respectively, the film).

Based on the IDW Publishing graphic novel written by Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) and illustrated by Kieron Dwyer, Remains is set in a chilling post-apocalyptic Reno, Nevada, and follows the survivors of a bizarre accident that reduced most of the world’s population to zombies. The group takes refuge in a vacant casino and fights a losing battle against the undead, who grow steadily stronger, smarter and more aggressive by the minute. The movie stars Grant Bowler (True Blood, Ugly Betty), Lance Reddick (Fringe, Lost, The Wire), Miko Hughes (Pet Cemetery) and Tawny Cypress (Rescue Me, Heroes). Remains is written by John Doolan and directed by Colin Theys; Andrew Gernhard and Zach O'Brien will serve as producers for Synthetic Cinema International. Review – 15 Minutes: A Tribute to Andy Warhol

In 1949, a young man moved to New York City and began a career in magazine illustration and advertising. This eccentric young man moved into the artistic and Music circles with ease and quickly became a leader in the Avant- guard movement that would be a visual representation of New York, and he too would become synonymous with the New York experience, in fact he would be New York, but we would all know him as Andy Warhol. In his life, Andy Warhol would be on the cutting edge of everything, and anyone who knew him or would be with him would be graced with good fortune, he would also inspire others to greatness. There are many artists in the music world that have created moving musical observations on Warhol that, maybe without knowing it perfectly reflected on the life and times of an artistic genus.

Sony Music and Legacy Recordings bring to you 15 Minutes, an audio homage to Andy Warhol 15 Minutes has been curated, assembled and produced by Warhol associate and conceptualist Jeff Gordon, and his partner Path Soong for Wu-Shan Inc. Gordon, who knew and admired Warhol, has been producing original sound recordings and prints by visual artists and poets for 25 years. Soong is a respected and well-known abstract black-and-white painter. In the early ’80s, Gordon conceptualized the idea of producing recordings (spoken word, sound pieces, and music) by visual artists, most of who had never been in a recording studio. Revolutions Per Minute (1982) packaged 20 of these recordings on a double LP, in a box with 20 visual prints by the 20 artists. The idea turned into a traveling exhibition, and the boxes were purchased by art world collectors, museums, galleries, and audio connoisseurs. Deluxe boxes contained signed prints, while regular boxes contained unsigned prints.

In 1995, Gordon and Soong produced Two Dialogues, a CD that featured the only known recorded interview with Jackson Pollock, together with a later extensive conversation with Lee Krasner. All sales royalties went to benefit the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center. In 2005, Gordon and Soong created “31 Stones,” a site-specific installation of visual and audio art, at the Pollock-Krasner House.

For the deluxe box set of 15 Minutes, each artist has created a unique visual work which will be represented as a 12x12-inch square silkscreen print. Among the contributions are Bob Dylan’s painting for the cover of his Self Portrait album (1970); photographer Nat Finkelstein’s black-and-white image of “Andy, Bobby [Dylan] and Elvis”; and Patti Smith’s poem “Edie Sedgwick (1943-1971)” (first published in Patti’s 1972 book, Seventh Heaven), super-imposed over a photographic image of Edie. The silkscreens are individually printed by Alexander Heinrici, one of Warhol’s most trusted silk screeners. Heinrici created the original silkscreens for Warhol’s world-renowned “Mao,” “Flowers” and “Merce Cunningham 1,” among others. Each will be numbered, signed or stamped by its creator(s). However, there are two exceptions. Ivan Karp, the art dealer who first championed Warhol’s paintings, only provides an audio track (no silkscreen). And Berlin and Fremont collaborated on the same piece. So there will be a total of 16 silkscreens in the box.

In addition, each contributor will be represented by an original recording, ranging from music to spoken word (poetry, reminiscences) to abstract sound. These recordings will span three CDs, and will also be repeated across four vinyl LPs. Among the contributions are Bob Dylan’s classic “When I Paint My Masterpiece” (1971), and Patti Smith’s new recording of “Edie.” Berlin and Fremont again collaborated on one piece (the 40-minute “Conversation,” which occupies all of CD Two, and both sides of the third LP). So there will be a total of 17 unique recordings in the box.

The deluxe version of the 15 Minutes box (limited to 85 copies) will be handmade and wrapped in black silk. It will house the 16 numbered silkscreens hand-printed by Heinrici. Along with the artwork are the three CDs and four vinyl LPs, plus individual photographs of each of the 18 contributors. The regular version of the 15 Minutes box (limited to 1,964 copies) will house color offset lithographs of the 16 artworks (not signed), along with the three CDs and four vinyl LPs, and the photographs of the contributors. This release has coincided with Andy Warhol’s birthday (August 6^th), Legacy Recordings has released the most ambitious multi-artist, multimedia project upon which it has ever embarked.

15 MINUTES: HOMAGE TO ANDY WARHOL, created with the full approval of The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, is headlined by Columbia Records artists Bob Dylan and Patti Smith, and 16 other world-renowned fine artists, poets, painters, photographers, actors, and musicians. “In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes,” Andy Warhol famously said in 1968.

15 Minutes is certain to be the most talked-about project of this fall’s box set season. It will gather silkscreen prints and original recordings, created by 18 of the most prominent artists who were associated with or have been influenced by Andy Warhol. In addition to Bob Dylan and Patti Smith, there will be contributions from (in alphabetical order): Yura Adams, Connie Beckley, Brigid Berlin, Susan Breen, Nat Finkelstein Vincent Fremont, John Giorno, Jeff Gordon, Alexander Heinrici, Ivan Karp, Christopher Makos, Billy Name, Carter Ratcliff, Path Soong, Ultra Violet, and Lawrence Weiner.

The limited-edition 12x12 box set, with a lift-off lid, is a D2C (Direct to Consumer) exclusive. It is available now for pre-order at fifteenminutesonline.com in advance of the August 2^nd release date through Legacy Recordings, a division of SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT. There will be two versions of the 15 Minutes box set: a deluxe edition strictly limited to 85 copies, priced at $20,000 – and a standard version strictly limited to 1,964 copies, priced at $600.

The 15 Minutes Art and Sound box set will be the focal point of a traveling exhibition that will appear in major museums and universities worldwide, through 2012 and beyond. The exhibition will open August 4^th (through October 29^th) at the Pollock-Krasner House in East Hampton, New York. It is also set for exhibition starting October 1^st (through Jan. 8^th) at The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh.

I have listened to several tracks from this collection and it is quite formidable, I especially liked “When I Paint My Masterpiece” by Bob Dylan, “Warhol Soundfield 467” by Susan Breen and “Edie Sedgwick” by Patti Smith, again these artists have created audio images of Andy Warhol that truly encompasses his life in sound. I only wish I could have been around to see and experience all of what this collection represents, but for those of us who were not able to be at The Warehouse, this collection will help us experience the magic that happened there.

Patton Oswalt, comedian and actor offers up this hilarious new CD “Finest Hour.” In his newest comedy special, recorded in Seattle, Oswalt talks about fatherhood, incontinent monkeys, crack heads and Jesus. As a 20-year veteran of the stand-up comedy scene, with three previous albums, concert DVDs, his own comedy tour and various acting and voiceover roles under his belt, Oswalt has become ubiquitous in the world of stand-up. His fourth (and quite possibly his best) album "Finest Hour" will be released by COMEDY CENTRAL Records on Tuesday, September 20, 2011. This album is way too short, I could not stop laughing, and when I did, it was only to take a breath. Patton puts on this cherub like smile and then smacks you with a 2x4 of comedy. His humorous delivery of life’s observations is what we all think about but don’t say; I especially loved his points of parenting, the power of Jesus and the ham incident. Parental advisory, the album does use a loving spoonful of colorful language, but it’s not senseless, but it stands to prove a point that people have devolved, and the human brain is a rat trapped in a cage and reality is a stick poking at the rat, listen to the album, you’ll get it. Look for it in stores on September 20^th or online at Comedy Central.

Le Grand Fooding New York 2011 —Exquisite Corpse is a 52 hour pop-up restaurant, during which 13 chefs for all over the world will work in 4 hour shifts to bring you a wildly diverse culinary experience.

The term “exquisite corpse” comes from the French term “cadavre exquis”. Originating in the literary world, the exquisite corpse is a method by which a collection of words, or in this case dishes, is collectively assembled in sequential order. Each chef will symbolically start their first dish with one key ingredient that was featured in the previous chef’s dessert or last dish. Such a creative theme promises to make for a truly unique culinary experience.

WHERE ? At the Honey Space in Chelsea (21st st & 11th ave). It is an independent exhibition space which was designed by artist Thomas Beale and opened in a public building in 2008, around very renowned and influent galleries. There has never been public events for now, only a couple of private small dinners.

WHAT? The restaurant will be operating around the clock and, in homage to the “exquisite corpse” tradition of the French Surrealists, each chef will use a bit of stock from his predecessor's meal in the creation of his own dishes. During 6 rounds per day (+ a MasterCard preview dinner service cooked by Andrew Carmellini and Hugue Dufour), each of them lasting 4 hours, the chefs will follow one another, 24/24, to pay a tribute to the taste of the time. Every chef will maintain the flame of this ephemeral restaurant, passing on stoves and pans to each other and concocting some of their best recipes for 40 seated urban, curious, foodie and lifestyle-focused people per round + guests.

Extant Arts will present the World Premiere of emerging playwright Andy James Hoover's (NYC Debut) CORNER POCKET, October 7-23 at the Gene Frankel Theatre (24 Bond Street between Bowery and Lafayette).

This production will be directed by Bridget R. Durkin and will feature Alexandra Hellquist, James Liebman, Virginia Logan, Kari Swenson Riely, Mary Schneider, and Eric Sutton*. The creative team will include Set Design by Jeremy Doucette, Puppet Design by Chana Porter, and Costume Design by Tristan Raines. The production will be Stage Managed by Anna Burnham*.

World-famous pool shark Manayunk O'Hara is having a rough week. Her husband is cheating, her archrival is on the rise, and to make matters worse, she's just been murdered. ANDY JAMES HOOVER (Playwright) A native Pennsylvanian and graduate of Princeton University, Andy is thrilled to have his New York premiere occur under the wonderful guidance of Bridget R. Durkin and Extant Arts Company. His previous work with Extant includes staged readings of his plays Chain of Deed and Paper Dolls, as well as roles in Macbeth and Love's Labour's Lost. Several of Andy's plays have been produced by the Contemporary Theater Company of Kingston, Rhode Island, including Set & Drift and Composition. His current projects include a baseball-centric novel called Career Vs. Doom, as well as a collaborative attempt at an as-yet-untitled screenplay about two business types lost in the woods.

BRIDGET R. DURKIN (Director) Bridget is a member of Extant Arts Company, where past shows include Ibsen's Ghosts (producer), Blue Surge (Beth), Macbeth (director), The Tempest (Trinculo), and developmental readings of Chain of Deed (Director) and Paper Dolls (Dee), both by Andy Hoover. Bridget and Andy have been friends and collaborators since they met at Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts; this is their first joint NYC production. Bridget's other recent projects include: Stolen Chair's Commedia Dell'Artemisia (Artemisia and Judge) and Medea (translation with Mark Buchan). Bridget graduated from Princeton with a degree in Classics and Theater.

The Clark Center Association kicks off their 2011-2012 10th Anniversary Season with San Luis Obispo piano virtuoso Rudolf Budginas in Concert at the Clark Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 8pm.

Rudolf Budginas and a special guest rock guitarist, present a crossover show of classical hits such as "Beethoven's 5th", Khachaturian's "Sabre Dance" and Tchaikovsky's "Black Swan."

These rock, pop and jazz-inspired arrangements for piano, guitar, bass and drums take classical music to surprising and unexpected directions.

Hailed in the press as "A young hip Victor Borge-like entertainer," the Lithuanian born and internationally renowned concert pianist has delighted audiences worldwide and acquired a slew of international awards and honors. Budginas' movie star-like personal charm, charisma and sense of humor allow him to consistently connect and interact with his audiences.

Budginas (pronounced bud-guinness) began his studies at the age of four and made his debut at nine with the Lithuanian National Symphony. He soon rose to international prominence performing solo concerts throughout the world. After moving to the U.S. in 1994, he discovered his true passion: giving classical music a broader audience appeal.

Transplanted to California after accepting a full scholarship at USC to complete a PhD in music, Rudolf settled in, took up surfing and developed a passion for expanding the accessibility of classical music to American audiences. Budginas currently resides in the San Luis Obispo area and is a professor of music at Cuesta College and the Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra at Thomas Aquinas College.

About the Comedy Greats:

Mel Brooks won an Oscar for writing the 1968 film “The Producers.” Among his other classic comedy films as director, writer and sometimes actor are “Blazing Saddles,” “Young Frankenstein,” “High Anxiety,” “History of the World Part 1,” “Spaceballs” and “Robin Hood: Men in Tights.” Brooks was a frequent guest on Cavett’s program.

Dick Cavett hosted his own late-night program on ABC from the late-‘60s to the mid-‘70s; from 1977 to 1982, “The Dick Cavett Show” appeared five times a week on public television. “Talk Show,” his most recent book, was published in 2010. Director and Producer of BlinkShow TV Antonio Freeman, has made his foot prints in the Las Vegas Area, but these are not normal foot prints, he has left “Green” prints.

While making his way through the ever so tightly knitted Las Vegas network, Mr. Freeman and his small, but effective, team hasn't just moved to Las Vegas they have gotten involved in a movement, The National Green Movement. BlinkShow TV has supported and joined the Las Vegas Green Chamber of Commerce. The Las Vegas Chamber is under the leadership of Katharine Duncan, she was the Las Vegas Mayor candidate 2011.

We asked Katharine what it means to have Antonio apart of this collaboration. She says, "Antonio of BlinkShow TV has come to the aid of The Las Vegas Green Chamber in the form media/production assistant. Volunteering his time to help develop our videos for our website and directing important projects has been a great plus. His understanding of media development and video production has been a true blessing...”

Antonio assures Groove Studio One that they will continue to provide their service of Talent development & production, but some aspects of the business has changed. I asked what are the reasons BlinkShow TV decided to go “Green”, Mr. Freeman replied “BlinkShow TV wants to let the community know that we love to give back and be of service, and we understand the importance of Green Communication and awareness. We also would like to leave a legacy by helping to set an example of (Green) participation”

One of the projects that Antonio and his team as constructed is the Las Vegas Anthem contest. This contest was designed to drill awareness from the young and young adults demographic. Even though this competition is based out of Vegas, it calls upon all to enter.

Since BlinkShow TV has been in Vegas, they have participated in several functions related to community development. When we asked Antonio the reasoning for such a direction he replied, “As I began to get involved with working with the artist and inspiring models here I quickly discovered that there is a major disconnect between ones' ability and ones' knowledge, then that exposures the lack community support in some areas. So, if we can find the support, then maybe we can help develop better talent. Without the student knowing than the teacher”.

Who is Christopher O’Reilly and what is House of Hannigan?

I am a designer from Ireland living in London with a love for fashion, film and music. I am particularly influenced by POP in every sense of the word. The House of Hannigan at the minute is myself, photographer James Gulliver and a small selection of our friends, all with different talent’s my logo is being professionally redone by Graphic’s student Emma Morgan and for the last month Rebecca Cowing has been promoting my clothing to agents and celebrities with the goal to get my designs on the red carpet. I hope The House of Hannigan will become a creative hub for artists and designers to showcase their individual work while working with a likeminded team on much bigger projects.

As a designer, what is your vision of fashion and how do you bring that vision into your work?

I view fashion as art as well as clothing. When I design, I design for a character which usually reflects the mood or place I am in at the time. I also like to design garments with film in mind. I hope to take my career into designing wardrobe for film and giving writers and directors characters life through how they dress while taking into account where they came from. I have a love for human nature.

What do you see as your greatest achievement so far in your present line?

I have two. One would be that when I was younger I have always wanted to try to change people’s perspective on 'The Troubles' in Northern Ireland (where I grew up) and with my last collection 'The Troubles with Northern Ireland - It's A Riot' I feel like I made a good start. I got to showcase my collection at Belfast, Fall for Fashion and was honored to open the Graduate Catwalk. In more recent history, one of the dresses from my collection has been worn by 'Made in Chelsea' star Gabriella Ellis for her Debut music video for the song 'Fight'. It has been my dream since forever to have my clothing or be involved creatively in a music video. I am so happy Gabriella gave me this opportunity. She is a Rock Star in the making!

How did you start The House of Hannigan?

I originally launched The House of Hannigan in May 2011. I had been commissioned to make an American Flag Dress for The Oonagh Boman Makeup Excellence Awards and thought it was the best time to get all of my work together on one place for people to see my last collection and work from university. From this the response I have gotten has been overwhelming. At the end of September 2011 I am having a re-launch as thanks to the hard PR work of Rebecca Cowing I have one of my garments in a music video which I hope will get me the press and recognition to find myself a job in a design house of the funding to start a new collection. The name 'House of -Hannigan' has come from my teen idol Alyson Hannigan.

What major events do you have coming up?

London Fashion Week is just round the corner. As head of menswear on www.fashioncapital.co.uk I plan to do most of the menswear day shows but try to get into as many women swear shows as I possibly can. I have a shoot of my Water Dress coming up at the end of September alongside the launch of a photo-shoot of my collection which was shot in a church by aspiring young fashion photographer James Gulliver. The Water Dress is also being used in a new Irish Campaign for Banshee Legend Whiskey which will launch in Dublin, France and Monaco later this year. At the minute I am really trying to promote what I have before taking on the challenge of a new collection. Networking is really important to me as if you see that people believe in you and your work then it encourages you to want to do more and see what boundaries you can push next time will be.

Torrontes – the other white wine…

I am a big fan of wines made from obscure grape varietals, or at least from varietals that have not made it to the consciousness of the wine drinking general public.

Varietals like Tannat, Egiodola, Counoise and Torrontes, don’t get me wrong, I love a good Cabernet, a Pinot Noir or a Chardonnay for that matter, but I also love the discovery and enjoyment of not so popular wines, which could also be great wines depending on the winemaker and its appellation, but no one knows about them yet, outside of few oenophiles and geeks.

For example, most Americans don’t know about Torrontés, the white grape varietal that has become synonymous with Argentina along with Malbec. Torrontés is a delicious white wine with low acidity and a tropical nose which offers relief from the summer heat when it is served chilled. The technical name for the most common type is Torrontés Riojano. DNA testing has shown that Torrontés Riojano is a close relative of Muscat Alexandria, the ancient grape varietal reputedly enjoyed often by Cleopatra. It is believed that Spanish colonist brought it to the new world, since Torrontés is common in Spain as well.

In Argentina, around 33,000 acres have been planted with Torrontes grapes and that makes about 10 percent of all the white wines planted in Argentina and about 20 percent of all white wines sold in Argentina.

During my last trip to Argentina, I had a chance to taste, once again, many wonderful wines, including of course Malbec and Torrontes wines. During my meetings with various winemakers and winery owners, I was informed that, and my taste buds confirmed this, that the best Torrontes wines come from Mendoza and Salta regions of Argentina. Of course Mendoza is the Napa Valley of Argentina. Salta on the other hand is a wonderful wine growing region as well along with La Rioja, San Juan and others.

Mendoza is the leading producer of wine in Argentina, with its vineyards at altitudes between 1,970-3,610 feet above sea level on the slopes and in the shadows of the Andes Mountains. Salta on the other hand, is 750 miles north of Mendoza where the weather is warmer, since you’re closer to the equator. Therefore, Torrontes wines from Salta tend to be sweeter then Torrontes wines from Mendoza.

What to look for in a nice Torrontes wine? First make sure it is well chilled; between 50 to 54 degrees. Color: Pale yellow color with golden tones. Nose: Intense aromas of white flowers, roses, jasmine with gentle touches of citric fruits and white peaches. On the palate: Vibrant acidity and silky long finish. You may not have all of these elements in all Torrontes wines, but the good ones will have most of these elements.

You can enjoy Torrontes by itself or with Asian dishes or with spicy dishes in general, shellfish or with fruits.

Go out and pick a nice bottle of Torrontes today from your favorite wine store; it should run you between $10 to $15 and enjoy it with family and friends. Cheers!

Music review: Jimi Hendrix –A Return to Winterland

Jimi Hendrix was known for his incredible style of on the cuff composition and his passion for performance, in his all to short but brilliant career, he provided us with a legacy of music that would still be as vibrant today as it was when he recorded each track. The Winterland albums are drawn from six stellar shows recorded over three days (October 10, 11 and 12, 1968) at San Francisco's historic Winterland Ballroom. These special performances celebrated the two-year anniversary of the Jimi Hendrix Experience and came just as the groundbreaking album Electric Ladyland was released.

Winterland presents some of Hendrix's most spectacular guitar work and the four CD set (also available as eight 12" vinyl LPs) is filled with rare live versions of classic songs such as "Manic Depression", "Are You Experienced?", "Tax Free" and "Little Wing" that are not part of any other Sony Legacy release. In a small bistro in San Luis Obispo I met with Irene Flores, published and well known anime artist and illustrator. Over lunch we discussed her travels in the art world and how she became one of the few anime artists in the United States to be just as much, if not more popular than artists and illustrators from Japan. Irene has always been interested in art, as a child she enjoyed being given opportunities to explore her interests freely, and having a father who was also an established artist was very helpful and her whole family supported her dreams. From an early age, Irene enjoyed reading comics and graphic novels, growing up in a family that was very close to its Asian roots , she quickly moved from American style comics to anime and then on to animated movies from Japan and Asian countries. Irene would examine the story telling aspects of illustration and found appreciation for the craft and its natural ability to be transformative, to change and grow with the story line or plot. She relies on the emphasis of good story-telling to give her illustrations life.

During Irene’s journey in art, she has grown to treat her illustrations as if they were alive, the characters grow and mature, experience personal development and become real, not just to Irene, but to her fans and followers. Irene shared that at the many Comic Conventions and Cosplay events she has been at, both as a patron and as a celebrity; it is the fine line between fantasy and reality that excites her about her artwork. Irene enjoys being an artist, but also keeps a certain amount of anonymity. Irene stated that as well as being a published artist and illustrator, she continues to live a normal life; she has a day job and tries to keep her celebrity status “Low-Key”. Irene has been a bit disappointed in the transfer of Japanese anime and animated movies that are voiced over or edited for American audiences, stating that the process takes the life out of the story and mutes the true voices of the characters, “Some things just cannot translate” she said as she was sipping her smoothie and enjoying the sunlight streaming through the window. Irene likes living in California and often works at the local library and art schools services to teach illustrative skills and share her gift.

Her works include a series of books that teach anime style illustration, her work with Impact Comics, Tokyo-Pop, Marvel and is working on a project for Yen Press. Her most impressive work however is her Anime series Mark of the Succubus, A story where an unmotivated high school student named Aiden meets Maeve, a succubus-in-training sent from the demon homeland to learn about humans. This series was voted as one of the top titles in Tokyo-Pop’s publication and is available on Amazon.com and other online distributors.

Eddie Vedder Flies Solo at the Santa Barbara Bowl

It's was a beautiful summer evening at the Santa Barbara Bowl, Eddie Vedder, front man for Pearl Jam would be performing for his fans at a sold out show at one of Santa Barbara’s most popular venues to support his most recent solo album Ukulele Songs . The sun was up with clear skies and a slight breeze that made for a perfect day at this open air amphitheater. When I arrived at the bowl, some fans were gathered at the plaza, socializing, lounging and making merry, while others took their seats awaiting the start of the evening’s performances.

As the opening performer, Glen Hansard took the stage; fans flocked from the terrace to the theater. Hansard, who's is well known for his Academy and Critics Choice Awards song, “Falling Slowly”, from the Once Soundtrack, followed up this hit with other originals "Leave" and "Low Rising". Glen then surprised the audience with his cover of Van Morrison's "Astral Weeks." Throughout these songs, Hansard belted a range of vocal notes which sounded amazing to hear live. Hansard finished his set and left the stage to a standing ovation; fans stood up and applauded with much appreciation.

During the preparation of equipment for Eddie Vedder, fans headed back to the plaza for drinks and other accommodations. It seemed the longer the wait, the more excited some fans became. Sporadic burst of laughter occurred throughout the crowd while socializing at the plaza which clearly indicated they were having a great time. It was about 8:00 pm, with the sun still lighting up the skies, when Eddie Vedder took the stage. He was greeted with a standing and a roaring crowd. With Ukulele in hand, Eddie Vedder began with "Can't Keep," from his solo album titled, Ukulele Songs. After performing the opening song, in a bantering way, Vedder says, "Feel free to buy me a Drink”, fans were very quick to oblige.

He continued to play songs from his solo album, and then played some Pearl Jam favorites, “Wish list", "Unthought Known", "Parting Ways" and "Off he goes". As Eddie switched to an acoustic guitar for the fifth song, he says, "Everybody get comfortable. We're going to be here for a while."

Eddie continued to play for the next couple of hours, he performed some cover songs, such as "Hurt," by Nine Inch Nails, Redemption Song," by Bob Marley," "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away," by the Beatles, and Needle and the Damage Done," by Neil Young.The concert ended with duets from Vedder and Hansard which included "Falling slowly," and "Dream a Little Dream of me”.

The combination of both their vocals was a perfect end to this event.

Akomplice – Taking Urban Fashion to New Levels

The concept of Urban Street Wear is not new, since the 60’s the image or graphic message found its way from the highway billboards to the chests of America’s youth. We have seen everything from “Have a nice Day” to “Go $#@% Yourself” and there are many independent artists, designers and major labels that saturate the market with their vision of that is hot and what is not. The center of the mass market image campaign of most “designers” is how to maximize the money making potential and just print, print, print, until the newness of the fad design has passed, only to hope it becomes retro and returns for more money making potential. Personally, I find that the T-Shirt fad is passed on from one cheap shirt printers to another, or at least I did until I met with Akomplice.

Akomplice is a small company founded on the concept that style should not be stupid and fashion is not always about the dollar. I met with a representative of the new flagship store for Akomplice in Santa Barbara, CA and we took a brief tour of the store and discussed what Akomplice is all about. The vision behind Akomplice and their line started with the “In Your face” image and message companionship of art with a strong street flavor and the message of youth and social change, looking forward to a day of equality among all, this was the companies first step to greatness. Akomplice used their dream to bring street fashion design out of the darkness, the artwork on the shirts represent the vision of the artist as a messenger of hope and change, that hard images can be used to inform and educate, bringing about a world view to their patrons.

Akomplice quickly moved into working with musical artists and personalities to create a charitable concept of collector’s designs, artwork, CD’s and gift boxes. One such Gift Box was The Doom Box; the buyer gets a sealed wooden box, enclosed is a limited edition Shirt, gift items and music media, all the items are worth more than the sale price of less than 50.00, but each sales proceeds went to charities and the company has made a mark on the local fashion market with their philanthropy.

Akomplice has moved into more than just T-Shirts, they have increased their line to include button down shirts, slacks, shorts and jackets. They have created a full fashion wardrobe with season attentive ideas and great sense of line and look. The recent line is a blend of durable materials used in uniquely creative color matches and simple texture blends. The lines of accessories are utilitarian but do not lack any creativity to use, and are easy to mix and match.

I can easily say that the lines of design for Akomplice are not just for the beach or the college frat party, but are real fashion concept for the people who want great comfort and outstanding value in their wardrobe choices, and want to look and feel special. Akomplice small run approach allows them introduce new designs in season run, rather than create a line of 10 shirt designs for the year, they will produce almost 10 times more, using multiple art designs and illustrative ideas, they can make their flexibility a true advantage and make the patron feel their choice in just as unique as they are.

The interior of the store is sparse, hip and full of art, keeping to murals and hanging renditions of their designs and art from local artisans, it has a upscale feel that you would expect in Los Angeles, New York and other metro locations, but staff is knowledgeable about fashion and look to help their clients find just the right look. We talked about their grand opening party held just a week before our interview and I was told they had a packed, standing room only house. The local “fashionistas” as well as the consumer public truly appreciated Akomplice's whole concept and the flagship location is making a name for themselves.

Instead of trying to retail in Wal-Mart or Target, Akomplice Clothing have partnered with retailers like Fuzion and other boutique style locations. The keeping it real ideal, selling out of the big brand locations would feel like “selling out” to Akomplice.

Jewelry and Fashion Designer to the Stars

There is an unfortunate trend in the design world where the truly gifted and talented artists are shadowed by the trendy and over popularized mavens that grace the magazines and television with their images. It is often the case that said artisans never see their work accepted and appreciated, but not so with Josette Doyle-Redwolf, a very skilled and truly talented artisan presently living and working in her Florida studios. Josette is herself a vision of beauty and puts herself in everything she creates, coming from a family with Fashion in their blood, she creates stunning fashions and accessories that push the boundaries of modern with the balance of nature. Groove Studio One recently had the opportunity to talk with Josette and find out what makes her who she is and her creations so unique.

Josette’s mother was a well-established television and runway model whom made her mark in fashion history. In her own words “I used to watch her decked out in amazing capes and suits and dresses walking the runway. I remember seeing one particular outfit on her and I was hooked on capes. It was butter soft baby blue enhanced leather cape with a silver fox collar. She looked amazing and I've always kept my love for the outrageous ever since”. Since her youth, Josette worked with many famous musicians and both in the studio and on the road, designed and created one of a kind wardrobe items. For many years she created stage clothes, hair styles, and makeup and was a “general road mom” even though she was far younger than many of the rockers, during this time on the road, she was in a relationship with the late Eric Carr of KISS and was deeply saddened at his passing. Josette worked with names such as Quiet Riot, Armored Saint, David Lee Roth and recently has worked with Sandra Bernhard, Ana Patricia Gonzalez, Tanya Charry, Gloria Gaynor, Lynda Carter, Gary Busey and many more.

We asked Josette if there been any times where you found it difficult to bring her ideas into form; her reply was something we did not expect

“Yes, I constantly am trying to teach myself new ways to do things. Being that I broke my neck and have worked my way back from semi paralysis and have a debilitating disease called Mixed Ehlers Danlos and degenerative bone disease. In addition to my own illness, and am raising a son with the same debilitating disease and home school him I don’t have the luxury of being able to afford a specialized school .I would love to go to fashion and design school but financially it hasn’t been the right time. Then my jewelry just started to get very popular and now I am busy doing shoots and dressing celebs. So I have to teach myself when I want to do a new design”.

“No one really wants to help you and if they find that you do have real talent they definitely don’t want to help you because they find you a threat. So you are forced to have enough determination to teach yourself everything. With the frustration of all of that I created DARE TO DREAM A NEW REALITY which is a nonprofit that helps other disabled artists to learn an art that will help them make ends meet. We have a success story with Freda Harris who is one of my disabled artists. When I first met her she would make comments like "I've had a good life", "I’m just waiting to die." She was having a terrible time getting around and walking with a walker and leg and foot braces. Today she walks on her own without the use any assistive device. She constantly has smile on her face and just got her line of jewelry into the Hilton Gift shop here on the island and has meetings coming up with the Marriott! It's a hand up not a hand out”.

Never before have we met such a designer that has not only had personal heartbreak, but like the mythical phoenix, risen from “the ashes” to spread beauty to the world. When we talked about inspiration, Josette referred to it as “A Slideshow in her head” It’s almost nonstop seeing designs and parts of designs. Sometimes Josette sees clothing, much of the time its amazing jewelry and then she would have to figure out how to make what she saw. What are some of the milestones you have achieved in your career?

Well the jewelry business is new to her, Josette has had her jewelry on Good morning America en Español 3 times in the last month and on fashion TV shows in Texas with the Latino community of which she is growing very popular with. Josette currently has had an article in People Magazine-en Español Online which is up for best dressed Against Kim Kardashion. Ana Patricia Gonzalez is wearing her spider necklace which was featured on the red carpet at Premios Juventad along with my Geode necklace on Tanya Charry another Latino star. She truly feels she is fortunate enough to have her jewelry gracing the red carpet of the PREMIOS TEXAS and that should lead to more jewelry appearing in people and other fashion magazines. I have made friends with Sandra Bernhard who is advertising her website now, “She is a sweet dear”.

Josette loves to work with natural elements like gorgeous butter soft leathers, huge fluffy furs and feathers and in the jewelry designs, in addition she works with amethyst and huge crystals and geodes. Josette stated her favorite design season is winter, even though she dislikes the cold weather. We asked is that is why she moved her operations to Florida –again, we were stunned, “I miss home, I had a celebrity friend and we had a beautiful little boy together. I went to Georgia to visit family and while I was there waiting on him to join us for Xmas, He passed away. I was in such a deep depression; I never went back to LA. I stayed in Georgia and found a home in the sticks; I ended up being miserable there. When my son got ill, the doctors told me that the only specialists in the country that knew about his disease were in Miami. I packed up the car and we drove to Miami and have been here ever since. I was diagnosed with the exact same rare disease. As soon as we can we are moving back home to LA. I love Miami don’t get me wrong but the fashion style just isn't here not like NY or LA”.

Josette has been asked to do the eco fashion show for New York Fashion week and is preparing for that now. When working with other designers, she is constantly doing collaborations for magazines. Recently her creations were in magazine shoots for GQ South Africa and Maxim Magazine where the model was wearing nothing but her jewelry and accessories. Candidly, she stated that she didn’t realize how good a woman looks drenched in nothing but jewels.

Presently Josette is planning 3 major photo shoots coming up for my outrageous clothing designs and her jewelry lines for men which is super chunky, she will be using celebrity fashion stylist and TV personality Christian Ramirez as the face for the men’s line and for the women statement pieces which will turn every head. Her plan to have at least a few pieces on celebrities for every red carpet event coming up through 2012, which would be a phenomenal feat for any designer. Josette is preparing to create a bi weekly downloadable catalog for boutiques to purchase from nationwide. Absolutely all of jewelry designs are one of a kind or part of a limited edition series. The other thing is to make everyone aware the difference between a regular jewelry designer and herself.

“My son and I go on mining trips as often as we can to mine the stones ourselves. Since he got ill I have made contacts and have mining teams that dig for me, one of which leaves for Madagascar in just a few weeks. I think the most important thing about my jewelry is its fresh from the earth. We mine the stones, cut them and create one of a kind wearable art for you. I find incredible other artists in faraway lands to make things like brass beads of which are made especially for my designs and I in turn help that artist family with their needs. We have good karma brewing and the jewelry oozes that. I hear all of the time by empathic people what high energy the jewelry has”.

“Jewelwraps” is the name given to our Pashmina Shawl and stole collection. We are a small family run business between two sisters. Our parent company is named after our father and is called Bhajan Basic Designs, Inc. We have been passionate to sustain the dying hand woven, hand crafted and hand embroidered art of making stoles, scarves and shawls. Our goal to make each piece unique in itself. The pair’s debut single, “TRUE LOVE,” will give fans the first taste of what’s to come from these singing sensations who deliver a strong pop sound based off of their sweet sisterly harmonies.

“This song is something we think a lot of our fans will be able to relate to,” says Destinee. “It’s about searching for true love and not finding it.”

“It’ll make someone feel empowered if they have ever had their heart broken and we hope everyone will be able to sing along to it,” adds Paris.

“TRUE LOVE” is the result of a collaboration between songwriter Lazonate Franklin and producers Carl Falk, Rami Yacoub & Swedish House Mafia’s Steve Angello. Rising from a club-ready beat into a soaring hook carried by the girls, “TRUE LOVE,” is an international anthem that’s ready for dance floors and arenas everywhere. Angello is not the only powerhouse producer who the duo have collaborated with, GRAMMY-winning producer RedOne has also produced a significant number of tracks for the album. Also, drawing inspiration from another pair of successful sisters, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, Destinee & Paris wrote a number of the songs for the album themselves.

Most recently, Destinee & Paris made their way into America’s homes by way of the small screen appearing regularly on American Idol Season 10, for which they were hand selected to contribute backing vocals and harmonies to the contestants’ performances throughout the season. your bag, so you see if your carrying a blue handbag and wearing blue shoes, it can get a little weird. So be aware of balance, contrast and coordinating. Travel bags are an exception, luggage needs to suit your travel needs not match your outfit.

Keep in mind, fashion is in the details. A top like this one has embellishments built in, so accessories would be very simple. Earrings and a bracelet would work but a great handbag would'nt hurt.

Ready for an evening of dramatic poetry readings, guitar and keyboard duos, improvisation, comic routines, and friendly conversation? Sometimes A cappella singing of madrigals from the 12^th and 14^th century, classical music, even hard-rock drumming also happen. All surrounded, on the walls, by vivid fine art--original paintings – while you sip coffee or hot chocolate, crowded into a warm and friendly space.

Then--to adapt an old cliché—Coffee Time is your time.

When? The festivities get started officially at 6 pm every Wednesday evening at 245 Town Center West, across from the Santa Maria mall, just a few doors down from Big Five. Give the high five and show up this coming Wednesday for more life and music and conversation.

The weekly event is sponsored by the Poetry Society of Santa Maria and has been happening for about 1 ½ years. I hate to say this, since I am a poet, but most poetry readings I have been to in my life have put me to sleep! Great poets reading great poetry in a dull, deadening style. NOT SO at Coffee Time. Here, the pace and vocalization are fast-paced and lively, the readings dramatic, often hilarious, or downright tragic. Rambunctious! Not dull by any stretch of the imagination.

Feel free to bring your own creative outpourings to the show as well. A sign-up sheet is passed around at the start for anyone wanting to present that evening.
